'Israeli' municipal elections resume amid Gaza war

Israeli Occupation voters are casting their votes today, Tuesday, in municipal elections that were postponed twice due to the war in Gaza.

Meanwhile, soldiers belonging to the Israeli Occupation army cast their votes last week in special polling stations set up in army camps in the Gaza Strip.

Polling stations opened today at 7:00 am and are scheduled to close at 10:00 pm. More than seven million eligible voters can participate in the elections, which also include East Jerusalem, the occupied West Bank settlements, and part of the occupied Golan Heights.

The elections in towns and kibbutzim adjacent to the besieged Gaza Strip and in northern towns close to Lebanon have been postponed until November, following Monday's Hezbollah rocket attacks, which led to the displacement of nearly 150,000 Israeli Occupation settlers in those areas. Municipal elections were originally scheduled for October 31 but were delayed following Operation Aqsa Typhoon on October 7.

Candidates from the far-right allied with Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will face off against more moderate and less extreme candidates. This dynamic is particularly noteworthy as the far-right persists in opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state.
