The United States has confirmed that the multi-party talks held in Paris have reached an "understanding" regarding a potential agreement to release prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told CNN on Sunday evening: "Representatives from “Israel”, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar met in Paris and reached an understanding on the basic outlines of an agreement, but the agreement is still being negotiated over its details."

Sullivan expressed hope that in the coming days, a final and cohesive agreement could be reached to achieve the desired ceasefire in the region.
