The Public Security Directorate (PSD) warned against the improper use of heating devices, especially amid low temperatures and increased use of these devices, which can lead to accidents.

The directorate urged adherence to proper usage methods for heating devices, including inspecting them before use and avoiding sleeping while they are still on or leaving them unattended in the presence of children without adult supervision.

It called on citizens to follow a set of guidelines when using heaters of all kinds, emphasizing the importance of periodically ventilating the house, avoiding sleeping with the heater on, and refraining from placing the heater in the bathroom, as such practices can lead to suffocation accidents, which are among the leading causes of death in heater-related incidents.

Furthermore, the directorate advised against allowing children to play near or around heaters, placing heaters in inappropriate locations or near flammable furniture, as this could lead to fires.

It also emphasized the importance of regularly inspecting and maintaining heaters, such as checking for any leaks or cracks in gas hoses connecting the cylinder to the gas heater, as gas leaks can lead to household fires.

The directorate urged citizens to call the unified emergency hotline, 911, when needed.
