The Gulf International Forum issued a report warning that vital undersea cables may be targeted by Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, posing a threat that could significantly impact global communications and the economy.

The report highlighted that the underwater network of vital communication cables could be an easy target for future attacks by Houthis, cautioning all nations relying on this infrastructure to be concerned about this possibility.

The report also suggested that Houthi attacks may evolve from surface targeting of ships to deep-sea attacks, considering undersea cables as a new target in the conflict.

The report illustrated through images and maps the distribution and connectivity of international cable networks in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Arabian Gulf.

This threat arises amidst the Houthi military campaign against ships associated with Israeli Occupation, which has been launching a brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip for the past 117 days.

The report suggests that Yemen holds a strategic position as internet channels connecting continents pass through it, reinforcing the possibility that undersea cables may become targets of Houthi attacks.

Some Iran-backed militias, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and militias in Iraq, have expressed threats via Telegram to cut undersea cables, representing a new development in regional conflict.

Many in various regions, including the Middle East, consider the modern conveniences provided by undersea cables as essential.

Concerns are growing about the impact of attacks on undersea cables on global communications and the world economy.
