A crowd of drivers of ride-hailing apps staged a protest Tuesday in front of the Ministry of Transport in the Um Uthaina area of the capital, Amman - expressing their objection to what they perceived as the “overreach of the companies operating the applications on their rights,” as described by the protestors.

The drivers' demands included extending the operational lifespan of the vehicles from 7 years to 10 years - per one of the drivers present at the protest.

The drivers also called for obligating companies to a commission not exceeding 15 percent, and called on the Transport Authority to take upon a “supervisory role,” - a protestor told Roya.

Transport Minister Wisam Al-tahtamouni met with a number of drivers inside the ministry for a few minutes before leaving “due to prior commitments,” according to drivers who attended the meeting.
