Shipping giant Maersk has announced it is suspending the passage of its vessels through the Red Sea Strait for 48 hours, following a missile attack by Yemen’s houthis that targeted “Maersk Hangzhou,” a vessel en route from Singapore to Suez Canal in Bab al-Mandab Strait.

"In light of the incident, and to allow time to investigate the details of the incident and assess the security situation further,it has been decided to delay all transits through the area for the next 48 hours," said the statement - as reported by Barron's.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced earlier Monday that a Maersk container ship was targeted in a missile attack while crossing the Red Sea.

CENTCOM stated that there were no reports of injuries resulting from the "attack on the Maersk container ship."

An American destroyer intercepted two missiles launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, per the statement.

CENTCOM noted that this is the 23rd attack on commercial ships since November 19.

The Houthis reaffirmed earlier that they would not cease their military operations against ships heading to the Israeli occupation via the Red Sea, despite the United States' intention to forcefully halt Houthi operations by forming an international maritime coalition.
