Official figures presented by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Makram Al-Qaisi, and the Minister of Health, Feras Al-Hawari, revealed a significant decline in medical tourism numbers in Jordan for the current year compared to previous years.

According to the numbers disclosed by the ministers during a parliamentary meeting discussing the conditions of medical tourism in Jordan, the number of medical tourists witnessed a 35 percent decrease in the last ten months compared to the figures recorded in 2018.

The current year saw 172,636 patients, down from 263,232 patients in 2018.

Responding to questions from MPs regarding the amounts of medical bills issued by the private medical sector, Hawari stated that the ministry is addressing complaints received regarding the value of the bills and is working to rectify financial discrepancies.

Qaisi added that competitive medical services from neighboring countries, such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have contributed to the decline in medical tourism in Jordan.
