Jordan bans electronic smoking in public places
Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh issued a decision Saturday to ban smoking, including heated tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and vaping, in public places.
Khasawneh directed ministries, institutions, and government departments to enforce the smoking ban to preserve public health.
He requested the designation of a specific area within public places for smoking, provided that the health and safety of the public are taken into consideration.
Furthermore, Khasawneh prohibited smoking in nurseries, kindergartens, and schools in both public and private sectors, as well as the designation of any specific smoking area within them.
The Prime Minister also instructed the prohibition of printing, displaying, or publishing any advertisements for tobacco products or distributing any brochures, or materials promoting them or advertising their products by any person or entity.
Khasawneh directed the Ministry of Health, relevant departments, and those responsible for public places to establish effective controls to implement the instructions, monitor compliance, and apply the penalties stipulated in the Public Health Law against violators, in addition to disciplinary penalties specified in the Civil Service Regulation applicable to employees.
