In an effort to alleviate the heavy traffic congestion, five additional traffic lights have been installed at the Shmeisani roundabout in Amman.

Monday, Roya's cameras pictured the newly installed traffic signals in action, though traffic remained significantly backed up in the Shmeisani area.

Notably, the amended traffic law will come into effect at midnight Tuesday, marking 30 days since their publication in the Official Gazette.

This update enforces stricter penalties for infractions that endanger lives and jeopardize the safety of road users.

It also entails increased fines and potential imprisonment for offenses including running red lights, reckless driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and driving without an unauthorized or expired license.

Additionally, speeding, using a phone while driving and other violations are subject to heightened penalties.
