The Mexican town of Pijijiapan, in the southern state of Chiapas, breaks the Guinness World Record for the largest string cheese ball.

Weighing in at 558 kilograms (kg), the ball surpassed the 350kg required by Guinness World Records to break the record, as there was no precedent for the record.

The ball of "quesillo" cheese, also known as "Oaxaca cheese," was created with the work of 80 workers and approximately 6,000 liters of milk.

A dairy farmer Hugo Velazquez said: "It is a source of pride for us. We are happy, proud to be here. For us and for our cattle producers in this region it is going to be a part of history to have the biggest piece of cheese in the world."

A Pijijiapan resident Karla Neza said: "We are very proud that our town, our region, is being seen all around the world."
