The demise of four Syrian refugees at the water treatment plant within the Zaatari refugee camp has invoked deep sorrow from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UNICEF, according to statements.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, leading both agencies to extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. In their commitment to aiding the affected families, they pledged to offer essential support, including psychosocial assistance, and ensure the uninterrupted continuation of vital services at the camp.

The incident involved four individuals of Arab nationality who lost their lives after falling into a pool associated with the water treatment plant at the Zaatari camp in Mafraq.

The incident transpired during maintenance activities for the plant, as reported by the spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate.

In response, specialized diving teams from the Mafraq Civil Defense Directorate retrieved the bodies. The remains were then transported and transferred to Mafraq Governmental Hospital.
