Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh stated that more than 20 out of the 41 articles in the Cybercrime Law are designed to address cyber threats targeting state agencies.

He made these remarks during a Senate session on Tuesday, where they discussed a draft law concerning cybercrimes, which was presented by the legal committee.

The draft law includes eight articles dedicated to safeguarding electronic financial transactions.

Khasawneh clarified that three articles in the draft pertain to patterns and expressions used in online activities, with the legal language primarily focusing on intent.

He emphasized that the law does not target any specific government officials but rather aims to protect the rights of Jordanian citizens.

Moreover, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Constitution of Jordan, known for its balance, is a crucial element in the nation's legal framework.

He stressed that the cybercrime law seeks to protect the country's political, administrative, and economic progress, while ensuring citizens can safely conduct daily tasks online.

Khasawneh reaffirmed that the proposed law encourages constructive criticism and does not categorize it as false news, defamation, or slander as mentioned in Article 15 of the draft law.
