The PSD's annual traffic accident report said that during the first five months of 2023, a total of 223 people died as a result of traffic accidents and 45,000 drivers were caught running red lights.

In 2017, a total of 10,226 traffic accidents were recorded, which slightly increase in 2018, and then the figure reached 161,511 in 2019.

Due to the closures and limitations imposed on vehicle movement during the coronavirus pandemic, the number of accidents decreased to 122,970 in 2020.

However in 2021, the number increased to pre-pandemic levels and then, in 2022, it reached 169,409, making it the highest figure recorded over the past six years.
