Umm Qais archaeological site security guard assaulted

Several Jordanian citizens assaulted a security guard working at the Umm Qais archaeological site in Irbid, according to a source from the Department of Antiquities Sunday.

The guard was on duty when a group of visitors tried to sneak into the archaeological site when he asked them to enter through the main gate but they refused, the source added.

When the guard tried to stop them from entering for the second time, they started to beat and insult him which led to various injuries.

The guard was later hospitalized and several people were detained in relation to the assault.

Investigations are underway.
