Hajj pilgrims begin first day of Tashreeq

On the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2023, which corresponds to the 11th of Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH, pilgrims of the Kaaba began the first day of Tashreeq by performing the ritual of throwing pebbles at the three Jamarat. The previous day, they had already thrown pebbles at the Jamrat al-Aqaba. Today, the pilgrims in a hurry will proceed to leave Mina before sunset on Monday after performing the throwing of the three Jamarat.

The pilgrims had begun making their way from Muzdalifah to Mina on Thursday morning to perform the pebble throwing ritual. This time, they will throw 21 pebbles, starting with the Small Jamrah, followed by the Middle Jamrah, and then the Jamrat Al-Aqaba, with seven pebbles for each Jamrah.

The pilgrims spend the Tashreeq nights in Mina, and those in a hurry are permitted to leave on the 12th of Dhul Hijjah before sunset. They then head to the Holy Kaaba to perform the farewell circumambulation, which marks the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Pilgrims have completed the rituals of their pilgrimage on the first day of Eid Al-Adha. This includes the throwing of the Jamrat al-Aqaba, performing the tawaf al-ifadah and supplicating in the Sacred Mosque, and shaving or shortening their hair. The pilgrim may choose to delay the tawaf al-ifadah and perform it along with the farewell tawaf in a single tawaf.

The three days of Tashreeq begin on the 11th of Dhul Hijjah and conclude with the sunset on the 13th day of Dhul Hijjah. The pilgrims hang the meat of their sacrificed animals in the sun to dry, which prevents it from spoiling. This allows the pilgrims to take the preserved meat with them to their respective countries.
