The Governor of Zarqa Hassan Al-Jbour announced Monday the start of phase two of the strategic plan to manage stray dogs in the governorate.

Jbour added that the first phase of the plan involved moving stray dogs out of residential areas and providing them with a suitable place to live away from residential areas.

During a meeting, which was attended by MP Hayel Ayyash, head of the Zarqa municipality Emad Al-Momani and head of the Rusaifa municipality Shadi Al-Zinati, Jbour explained that the first phase achieved tangible results, including reducing the number of dog attacks.

The second phase of the plan includes allocating a piece of land (20 dunums) to house, rehabilitate and vaccinate stray dogs.

The head of the Humane Society for Animal Welfare Ahmed Hussein Al-Tamimi said that the first phase included utilizing more than 300,000 kilograms of leftover food from restaurants and food factories.

Tamimi confirmed that the estimated number of stray dogs in Zarqa is approximately 700 dogs.

He noted that the association built a database to determine the appropriate methods for dealing with these dogs.
