A Jordanian citizen filed a lawsuit against the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) after he was attacked by a stray dog in his home garden in Amman.

The citizen is demanding material and moral compensation for the injuries/damage incurred as a result of the incident which occurred in May.

The Amman Criminal Court decided to postpone consideration of the case until next week to allow the GAM AND MOH to review the case file.

-Unavailability of treatment-

According to the complaint, the citizen went to a private hospital near his home for treatment but was shocked that treatment for such cases is only available in governmental hospitals and health centers.

After that, he tried to get treated at several other health centers but treatment was reportedly not available.

He had to go to Al-Hussein Hospital in Salt, where the 'necessary and urgent' treatment was provided.

The citizen's lawyer demanded compensation accusing the GAM and MOH of 'negligence' in performing their duties.

NOTE: This story is not placing the blame on anyone-anything.

According to Jordanian law, authorities have a responsibility to provide shelter and safety to stray dogs.
