At least 18 Mexican tourists were killed and 24 injured when their bus plunged into a canyon in the western Mexican state of Nayarit, according to AFP.

An official said that the bus belonging to a private company was transporting tourists from Guadalajara in the neighboring state of Jalisco to the beaches of Guayabitos district in Nayarit when it steered off the road and plunged into the canyon.

He added that all the passengers were Mexicans. However, the cause of the accident, which occurred on Saturday night, was not mentioned.
