A cat that went viral for its enormous size was adopted by an owner committed to helping the 40.3-pound cat to lose weight.

An image of Patches the cat, 6, went viral after Richmond Animal Care and Control in Virginia shared a photo of him on Wednesday to help find him a home.

The Facebook post read, “Did you wake up today and say, "Let's adopt the largest cat anyone has ever seen"? If so, we have the cat for you.”

The shelter said that the “very sweet” cat is currently on a diet and wants him to get to a healthy weight.

"Until then, we will marvel at his gloriously gluttonous body!" the shelter wrote.

On Friday, the post was updated to confirm that Patches was adopted by a woman determined to help him lose weight.

The woman, Kay Ford, told local media that she loved the cat as soon as she saw the picture.

"My daughter sent me the post yesterday morning, and she said, 'This is your moment.' And I clicked on the picture, and I went, 'Oh my gosh, I have to have Patches. I just have to have Patches,'" Ford said.
