Clashes, injuries during attempt to storm Lebanese government headquarters

Tuesday, Lebanese demonstrators tried to storm the government headquarters in downtown Beirut, as riot police and the army prevented them from crossing the checkpoint, according to Roya's correspondent.

Groups of retired military soldiers arrived at Riad Al Solh Square to participate in a sit-in, which was held "against the government's policies towards retirees and the deduction of their salaries."

Heavy security and army presence were reported in the area, Roya's reporter added.

She said that cases of suffocation were reported among retired soldiers, due to the heavy use of tear gas.

Lebanese Red Cross ambulances were present at the scene to provide medical treatment to those who need it.
