Friday, authorities in Afghanistan announced that 12 people were killed as a result of several avalanches that occurred in the last four days in the northeastern Badakhshan province.

The director of the Department of Natural Disaster Control in Badakhshan, Mawlawi Muhammad Akram Akbari, said in a press conference that avalanches occurred in several areas of the state due to heavy snow, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

He explained that the landslides killed 12 people and injured 12 others, and caused damage to 50 homes.
