The head of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority's Board of Commissioners, Suleiman Al-Farajat, said Sunday that Petra is the most important pillar in the Jordan Golden Triangle, adding that it is the reason 80 percent of foreign tourists come to Jordan.

Farajat told Roya that the tourism sector is recovering and work is ongoing to promote the Rose City on a global level, including developing the archaeological reserve and infrastructure in the Wadi Mousa region.

The local authorities will support and encourage investments in the hotel sector through incentives and facilities, in addition to developing the transportation system to become more environmentally friendly.

He added that the authority is working on preparing the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center and the cultural village in Al-Bayda, to host international concerts and encourage more tourists to visit.

The authority has completed twelve projects over the past four years, which cost JD 31 million, providing approximately one thousand and five hundred job opportunities.
