The Assistant Secretary-General for Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Abu Nuqta declared Monday that there is no outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) among cows in the Dhleil area in Jordan.

Abu Nuqta added that infections were limited to five farms, some of which received vaccinations from the private sector and others from the ministry.

He stressed that this disease does not pose any danger or harm to humans and is not fatal to animals. He explained that it only decreases productivity because one of the symptoms is developing a fever.

He confirmed that the ministry is ready and capable to keep the situation under control, adding that they are implementing quarantine and other precautionary measures to limit further infections.

He mentioned that samples were sent to the laboratories of the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) to identify the strains that cows were exposed to.
