A man in his twenties was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for raping his brother’s wife in Irbid, the Grand Criminal Court announced Thursday.

The decision came in a public session held under the chairmanship of Judge Ali Obeidat, and the membership of judges Malik Al-Hamouri and Osama Suleiman.

The woman was a minor when the incident occurred. She was 17.

The offender, his brother, and the victim lived with the father, mother, and sister in the same apartment in Irbid.

According to the court, the incident happened when the mother and the victim’s husband went to work. The victim was in her bedroom when the offender came to her room and knocked on the door.

She opened the door and he asked her to give him pajamas. She told him to wait outside, but he refused.

He then opened the door and locked it. The victim tried to push him away, but he refused and then raped her.

He told her, "I want you and I love you before you and my brother got married."

After the offender left, the victim called her husband and told him what had happened, according to the court.
