Three people were killed and three others were injured in a shooting at a mall in Indiana, according to US officials.

The mayor of Greenwood, Indiana, Mark W. Myers, said that the state witnessed a heavy shooting Sunday in a mall.

Myers added that the shooter was shot dead by an armed person, as Greenwood Police posted a message on its Facebook page, asking people who witnessed the shooting to provide information.

The Indiana attack is the latest in a series of armed violence in the United States, as the use of firearms kills around 40,000 people annually, according to local media.
