The National Center for Human Rights called for the protection and promotion of the rights of the elderly, through the enactment of a special law that guarantees their rights and takes into account their special needs.

The Center added in a statement Saturday, on the occasion of the International Day for the Protection of the Elderly from Abuse, that it is necessary to provide a secure retirement future for the elderly through the social security umbrella, and the need to include them in the necessary health care umbrella to include home care, and to strengthen medical cadres with geriatricians.

The Center pointed out that there are currently challenges and problems related to these needs, which requires the cooperation of all parties to advance the reality of the elderly, calling for developing and updating strategic plans and including the necessary mechanisms to enhance and protect this category, in light of cultural, economic and social changes.

It called for ensuring the right to an adequate standard of living for them, including adequate food, providing them with adequate housing that preserves their human dignity, and establishing centers designated for the elderly to spend their spare time in, which contributes to enhancing their mental and physical health.
