Italy announced that as of May 31, the “green permit” which contains evidence of vaccination against COVID-19, recovery from it or a PCR test before entering the country will no longer be needed.

Italy was the first European country to suffer from a large-scale outbreak of the Covid virus in early 2020 which led to the implementation of strict measures such as requiring all workers to show a green permit.

As the number of cases dropped and the majority of the population were vaccinated, most measures were lifted, with the exception of mandatory masks in schools and public transport.

On Monday, Italy recorded 7,537 new COVID-19 cases and 62 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic 166,631, according to the Ministry of Health.
