US President Donald Trump told supporters at a midterm campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, on Friday that he wears very little makeup and applies it himself.

The comments came as he mocked Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff’s campaign spending on professional makeup services.

Speaking at Dalton Municipal Airport while campaigning for Republican Senate candidate Mike Collins and gubernatorial hopeful Rick Jackson, Trump said: “Jon Ossoff has spent more money on makeup, and by the way I wear very little and I do it myself.”

He then mimed applying makeup with his hands.

He continued: “Because if you don’t put a little on you look a little bit like a dead person, and I don’t want to look that way.”

Trump contrasted his approach with Ossoff’s, claiming the senator “goes full bore, he’s got the makeup artist, they’re in there all the time—I don’t know how he does it.”

He further asserted that Ossoff had spent more on makeup than any man or woman in Senate history and that “the women aren’t happy about it,” though he offered no supporting evidence for the broader claim.

The remarks referenced earlier reporting that Ossoff’s campaign had paid Atlanta-based makeup artist Stephanie Ponder nearly $3,000 (later totals exceeding $4,600) for “makeup services” since February 2026.

Ponder has Hollywood credits including The Notebook and The Hunger Games films. Federal filings showed Ossoff’s spending on the category ranked highest among federal candidates at the time of the initial reports.

Trump, 80, delivered the aside during a longer speech that also included attacks on Ossoff’s appearance, comparing him to Pee-wee Herman, and broader campaign themes ahead of the November midterms.

The Georgia Senate race is closely watched, with Ossoff seeking a second term against Collins.

The president’s comments quickly circulated online, with clips of the makeup demonstration shared widely.

Trump himself has long faced public discussion of his complexion and appearance.
