German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the issue of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine joining the European Union cannot be discussed now before the situation in Ukraine calms down.

Scholz added that the non-acceptance of Ukraine and Georgia in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was the "correct move."

He pointed out that this issue was not and is not on the agenda.

NATO countries confirmed at the Bucharest summit in 2008 that Georgia and Ukraine have the right to membership in the organization, and postponed deciding on the issue indefinitely.

Earlier, NATO leaders, during a summit in Brussels, supported the right of the two countries to join the military bloc and stressed that this is linked to reforms, and this may take a long time.

Moscow has consistently affirmed its rejection of this step, considering it a threat to its security, and called on NATO not to expand eastward towards its borders, at a time when Kyiv has been doing its best since 2014 to join NATO.
