More than 50,000 Ukrainians have fled their country in less than 48 hours since the start of the Russian invasion, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said on Friday.

On Thursday, he counted 100,000 displaced people inside Ukraine.

“More than 50,000 Ukrainian refugees have fled their country in less than 48 hours — a majority to Poland and Moldova — and many more are moving towards its borders,” Filippo Grandi wrote on Twitter.

He added: “Heartfelt thanks to the governments and people of countries keeping their borders open and welcoming refugees.”
