Tuesday, the Director of the Laboratories Directorate at the Ministry of Health Mahmoud Al-Ghazu confirmed to Roya that the laboratory did not detect any infection with the Omicron variant during random samples conducted by the COVID-19 investigation teams across Jordan.

Earlier, a member of the Epidemics Committee Muhannad Al-Nsour said that Jordan has not recorded any case of the Omicron COVID variant yet.

Nsour told Roya’s Nabd Albalad that the committee is currently conducting studies on the new variant, noting that Omicron appears to spread more quickly than Delta.

He said that the committee is monitoring the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, deaths and the positivity rates, noting that the epidemiological situation in Jordan is “very worrying” after the increase in COVID-19 deaths.

Nsour also stressed the need to reconsider health and treatment protocols in Jordan following the increase in the number of coronavirus deaths in Jordan on Sunday.

Additionally, he indicated that 82 percent of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals are unvaccinated, and 87 percent of deaths from the virus were also among those unvaccinated.

He lastly called on everyone to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
