Wednesday, a member of the Health Committee at the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), Ibrahim Al-Bdour, said that Jordan is getting closer to recording the first case of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Bdour told Roya that after Saudi Arabia recorded its first infection with the new variant, and the Israeli Occupation confirmed dozens of infections with the variant during the past week, Jordan is very close to recording its first case, indicating that it has become ‘a matter of time.’

He added that the Ministry of Health should prepare an emergency plan to deal with the new variant, by implementing the institutional-quarantine procedure, and following up on those who come into contact with anyone who tests positive for the virus.

He noted that the most important issue that must be monitored is to ensure the effectiveness of vaccines in confronting the new variant.
