The Jordanian government affirmed on Tuesday its pride in the fraternal relations linking the Kingdom with the Syrian Arab Republic, expressing its keenness to develop these ties to serve mutual interests and ensure coordination in confronting shared challenges, foremost among them the terrorist organization Daesh, which poses a common threat to both nations.

Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad H. Al-Momani expressed Jordan's deep respect for the Syrian state and its people.

He emphasized that bilateral coordination in combating terrorism, weapons smuggling, and narcotics trafficking has been institutional, continuous, and active for years, grounded in a firm conviction to consolidate the security and stability of both countries.

Dr. Al-Momani stated that the airstrikes conducted yesterday by the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army targeted Daesh positions after Jordan’s patience had run out regarding the movements of terrorist organizations targeting its national security.

He explained that the operations were carried out based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and planned terrorist operations against Jordan. Initial assessments indicate substantial Daesh losses, estimated at more than 20 militants, along with the destruction of a massive weapons depot belonging to the group.

The spokesperson expressed regret over civilian casualties, affirming that Jordan strictly abstains from targeting sites where intelligence indicates the presence of civilians.

He stated that competent Jordanian authorities are actively following up on this matter with their Syrian counterparts.

Al-Momani stressed that Jordan consistently takes every precaution to avoid civilian harm, valuing innocent civilian lives across its borders with the same gravity it accords to Jordanian lives, stemming from the belief that human dignity and life are indivisible values regardless of nationality or location.

Al-Momani announced that Jordan will work with its Syrian counterparts to form a joint committee to address the fallout of the operation against Daesh and upgrade coordination in countering the group, ensuring the protection of civilians and the mutual security of both nations.

Highlighting that the security of Jordan and Syria is inseparable, the spokesperson noted that defeating terrorism -which targeted Jordan days ago in the village of Humud in Karak- is a shared objective, and both states will continue working to solidify their brotherly ties.

Al-Momani concluded by emphasizing that Jordan’s commitment to Syria cannot be called into question, having continuously supported and hosted Syrian refugees.

He stated that the Kingdom remains committed to standing beside Syria, supporting its security, fortifying its internal front and unity, and strengthening its presence across all levels, while actively coordinating with international partners to safeguard Syrian territorial integrity, ensure stability, and repel external ambitions, particularly in southern Syria.
