Friday, Pope Francis called on world leaders who will gather at the United Nations climate summit "COP26," which begins Sunday in Glasgow, to provide "quickly (...) effective solutions to the environmental crisis."

"The political decision-makers who will meet at COP26 in Glasgow are urgently called upon to provide effective solutions to the current environmental crisis and thus secure tangible hope for future generations," the pontiff said during a meeting broadcast by the BBC.

He warned of an "unprecedented threat of climate change and the deterioration of our common home."

In the face of fears of the failure of the COP26 Climate Conference, which begins on Sunday, calls are multiplied for world leaders to do more and at a faster pace to curb climate warming that has caused devastating disasters.
