A recent research conducted by the Tadamon (Sisterhood is Global Institute Jordan - SIGI) showed that 57 percent of women who got married before the age of 18 are now against child marriage, while 20 percent of women in the same age group said that they are not against getting married young.

A total of 23 percent of women in the same age group adopted a neutral stance.

Additionally, Tadamon asked the same sample whether they would agree to get their sons or daughters married before they turn 18. A total of 85 percent said they would not agree, and only five percent agreed, while 10 percent took a neutral stance.

Tadamon pointed out that some women in the sample after they got married at a young age, became strongly against it.

Notably, underage marriage rates increased in Jordan during 2020 to reach 11.8 percent.
