Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra announced Tuesday that Algeria is cutting diplomatic relations with Morocco due to the kingdom's "hostile actions".

"Algeria has decided to cut diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, starting today, Tuesday," Lamamra told a press conference.

Algeria and Morocco have had strained relations for years, mainly over the issue of Western Sahara.

The border between the two countries has been closed since 1994.
