A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi said Friday that the epidemiological situation in Jordan is still ‘stable’ despite the increase in the number of coronavirus infections in recent days.

He pointed out that the PCR positivity rates reached around 4 percent, which is considered low when compared to other countries across the world.

In a statement to Roya, Hijjawi added that the Ministry of Health's plan to gradually reopen various sectors is going as planned.

Sep. 1, the third phase of the government’s reopening plan will enter into force. The third phase aims to return to normal life. Curfew hours will be canceled, students in schools and universities will return to in-person education, and the majority of sectors and activities will be allowed to operate at full capacity.

Festivals, conferences, exhibitions and theaters will return to operating, but at a limited rate of capacity and within the required health conditions.

Hijjawi also spoke about the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Jordan, stressing that the pace is going 'very well,' especially after the Ministry of Health announced that those wishing to take the coronavirus vaccine, can receive it without prior appointment.

Regarding receiving the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Hijjawi explained that the Ministry of Health will administer it to certain groups of people, including cancer patients, kidney transplants, bone marrow transplants, those infected with AIDS, and any other diseases that weaken the immunity system.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus vaccination campaign in Jordan, a total of 2,686,764 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Jordan began its national COVID-19 vaccination campaign on Jan. 13.
