The Executive Director of Public Transport and Infrastructure in the Greater Amman Municipality, Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, said on Tuesday that the first track of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will start trial runs soon.

In a radio statements, Kharabsheh added that the infrastructure for the first track, which starts from Sweileh through Wadi Saqra and reaches Ras Al Ain, is 100 percent ready.

He explained that the infrastructure for the second track of the project, which starts from the Sports City Circle to Al Shaheed Street, is 90 percent ready, and will be completed within three months, noting that the third track linking Zarqa with Amman is 20 percent ready.

"Within a month, the Sports City diversion will be complete. Work on the tunnels of Tariq Intersection has been completed, while the completion of the station at Tariq Intersection will take 4 to 5 months," according to Al-Kharbsheh.

He pointed out that the operation of the BRT will be carried out in 3 stages, starting with the first track.

Al-Kharabsheh indicated that the aim of the express bus is to provide high quality public transport services, not to solve the traffic crisis.
