The Director of the Southern Shouneh Hospital, Fayez Al-Kharabsheh, revealed the death of two women in the Karama Dam, Balqa Friday.

In statements to Roya, Kharabsheh said that a mother in her fifties died by drowning in the Karama Dam Friday, while her 20-year-old daughter died in a Zarqa hospital two days after she suffered from drowning injuries.

This news came shortly after the announcement of the death of four children, all of whom are siblings, earlier Tuesday.

Kharabsheh noted the deceased siblings were residents of the area surrounding the dam.

He stressed that the occurence of drowning in agricultural ponds and dams has become a frequent phenomenon, especially in the Jordan Valley areas, where there are abundant ponds.

Kharabsheh pointed out that most of the drowning deaths were children or people who could not swim, calling on the residents of the area to take precautions and avoid approaching these water bodies.

He called on officials to put up warning signs and to fence entire dams, to reduce drowning incidents.
