The European Medicines Agency said Tuesday that there is a 'possible link' between the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and blood clots. 

The statement came a week after the US halted use of one-shot vaccine “out of an abundance of caution," for blood clot concerns. Europe then decided to delay its own rollout of the vaccine, which it approved in early March. 

The EMA affirmed that blood clots remain rare, and that the benefit of the vaccine far outweighs the risk. 

"COVID-19 is associated with a risk of hospitalisation and death. The reported combination of blood clots and low blood platelets is very rare, and the overall benefits of COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen in preventing COVID-19 outweigh the risks of side effects," a press release read. 

As of two weeks ago, just over seven million had received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the US. Eight reported blood clots, one case of which was fatal. 

According to Associated Press, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Sputnik V are all "made with the same technology."
