Buckingham Palace said Friday that Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth ll, has died at the age of 99.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,” the Palace announced.

“Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

The Duke of Edinburgh was born in 1921 as a member of the Greek royal family. He married his third cousin Elizabeth in 1947.

Throughout his years of service, he attended tens of thousands of royal outings, and quickly became known for his off-the-cuff remarks, unwavering commitment to public service, and fierce love for the Queen.

He retired from his royal duties in 2017.

He was hospitalized in February after 'feeling unwell,' but was released in March.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson mourned the loss to the country, noting the Prince's 'exceptional work and life.'

London's Mayor Siddiq Khan also praised 'an exceptional man who has devoted his life to public service and helping others.'
