MP Talib al-Sarayreh said Wednesday that the government has to prepare a comprehensive national strategy to combat drug trafficking.

He stressed that high unemployment rates are a major reason for increased trafficking.

Sarayreh compared drugs with the coronavirus pandemic given the prevalence of issues related to drug abuse during the Parliament’s supervisory session Wednesday.

“Drugs are no less dangerous than the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

He explained that the government justifies the difficulty of combating drug trafficking by not having the required devices to detect them at borders.
