A doctor at the Prince Hamzah hospital, Ru'a Nsour, Saturday recalled the devastating story of a Jordanian mother who died from the coronavirus and never got to see her newborn baby.

Nsour said that a 21-year-old patient, who gave birth eight days before discovering her coronavirus infection, was shortly thereafter sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to her condition worsening.

On March 23, Nsour said that the sick mother clung to the doctor's hand, questioning whether she would soon be dead, and requested that her relatives be contacted and informed about her condition.

She said all she wanted was to see her son.

“The sick mother died the same day. I took a piece of my heart with her,” Nsour concluded.

In the past week, Jordan recorded the highest weekly death toll from the coronavirus, reaching 673, while the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic reached 6,374.
