A police patrol intervened immediately, managing to overpower and arrest the suspect. However, the patrol's commanding officer sustained facial injuries during the confrontation.

The injured officers were transported to hospital, where Corporal Al-Salaita later succumbed to his injuries. The injured officer remains in stable condition, according to the PSD.

The PSD said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had planned the attack against security personnel and described the incident as a terrorist act.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, while the PSD mourned Corporal Al-Salaita and offered condolences to his family and colleagues.
