Al-Faraya: The health situation in Jordan is critical
The Minister of Interior and acting Minister of Health, Mazen Al-Faraya, said Tuesday that the health situation in the Kingdom is critical with regard to the number of daily infections and deaths from the coronavirus; hospital occupancy rates; and citizens' adherence to health requirements.
Al-Faraya added, during a meeting of the Committee to follow up on the recommendations of the House of Representatives related to the Corona pandemic, Tuesday, that the ministry is working on three main tracks with the pandemic, in coordination with other ministries, the House of Representatives and the relevant authority in the country.
He said that the first of these matters is the Corona vaccination pathway that the ministry is carrying out, in cooperation with the National Center for Security, Crisis Management and Royal Medical Services, adding that about 300,000 doses of the Corona vaccine have been given so far, and 700,000 registered on the vaccination platform.
He mentioned that it was agreed with the company producing Sinopharm to supply Jordan with two million doses of the vaccine. The ministry expects 400,000 doses of this vaccine this week and 600,000 doses next month.
Regarding Pfizer, Al-Faraya said that the company is currently committed to Jordan and all those who received the first dose of the company’s vaccine will receive a second dose.
As for the second track related to the commitment of citizens, he stressed that the main goal is to have a safe summer and open sectors if there is a continued commitment to preventative measures and getting vaccinated.
As for the last track related to increasing hospital capacity, Al-Faraya said that some of the Ministry's hospitals have reached a critical stage in terms of capacity, noting that the ministry is working to contract with private hospitals.
He indicated that the ministry is working to increase the citizen’s confidence in health centers and hospitals, as well as increasing the confidence of health centers and hospitals in the ministry’s center, stressing that this can only come through field visits.
He stressed that health personnel will be distributed in all centers and hospitals equally, according to the size and number of the population.
Al-Faraya stressed that no doctor will be kept as an "administrator," and he/she will perform medical work in addition to administrative work in hospitals near the Ministry's center.
