The Saudi Ministry of Health announced that Muslims wishing to perform the Hajj this year must prove that they have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

The statement did not specify whether the pilgrimage, which is performed by approximately two million Muslims around the world, would once again exclude pilgrims from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Saudi officials last year allowed only a very limited number of pilgrims from within the Kingdom to perform the Hajj, amid the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Hajj, which lasts for five days, is scheduled to begin at the end of July.
