Hundreds of 1948 Palestinians demonstrated Friday in Umm al-Fahm, in the north of the country, after a young student was killed at the start of the week by police during an exchange of fire with suspected criminals, according to an AFP journalist.

Demonstrators shouted slogans against the security forces in front of the police station in Umm al-Fahm, the largest Arab city in the north of the Israeli Occupation, and called for political action against crime in the Arab regions.

The protesters urged "the police and the government to stop talking and start taking action," according to what the Arab parliamentarian, Yusef Jabareen, wrote on Twitter.

"Days pass by and victims accumulate. The authorities left us to our fate. They left us drowning in the blood of our children and in a sea of illegal weapons," Jabareen added.

On Tuesday evening, thousands participated in the funeral of the 22-year-old nursing student Ahmed Hegazi, according to Israeli Occupation media.

1948 Palestinians, the Palestinians who remained on their lands with the establishment of the Israeli Occupation in 1948, represent about 20 percent of the country's population.

Arabs say they are facing discrimination, especially since the Knesset passed a law in 2018 that defines the Israeli Occupation as the "nation-state of the Jewish people" and gives Jews an "exclusive" right to self-determination.
