More than 2,500 establishments shut down for defense order violations

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Saturday announced that authorities have shut down 2,520 establishments for defense order violations from Oct. 25 to Jan. 22. 

Over 5,000 citizens were fined for lack of compliance with health and safety measures during the same time period. 

The local authorities in charge of implementing Defense Order 20, which includes 13 ministries and other government agencies, have carried out approximately 181,860 inspections across the Kingdom.

On Friday alone, a total of 1,096 inspections were carried out, during which 40 facilities were shut down and 101 citizens were fined.

The authorities involved in monitoring compliance with Defence Order 20 are the Ministries of Industry, Trade and Supply, Agriculture, Tourism and Antiquities, Labor, Environment, Social Development, Local Administration, Social Security Corporation, Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, Jordan Food and Drug Administration, Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Energy Sector Regulatory Authority, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and other municipalities.

Local authorities pointed out that inspections are ongoing and aim to ensure compliance with the Defense Order 20, which includes wearing face masks, social distancing and avoiding overcrowding.
