The COVID-19 situation in Palestine is 'catastrophic' and is getting worse and more dangerous, said the spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and the Head of the Coronavirus Portfolio Kamal Al-Shakhra Saturday.

In order to limit the spread of the virus in Palestine, Shakhra called on citizens to comply with health and safety measures, which include social distancing and wearing face masks.

He added that the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths are still high, and the rate of infection ranges between 15 and 35 percent of the conducted tests.

Regarding the coronavirus vaccine, Shakhra said it is expected to be available in Palestine during the next two weeks. However, he said that it is still unknown which vaccine will arrive in Palestine and that the Ministry of Health is currently working on getting COVID-19 vaccines from four different sources.

Saturday, Palestine recorded 21 deaths and 1,306 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 131,904.
