The number of coronavirus cases in Jordan has been stabilizing over the past few days but it is expected to increase in the coming few days, said the head of the coronavirus portfolio Wael Hayajneh Tuesday. He predicted a rise in the number of daily positive cases seven days after the parliamentary elections and the gatherings that followed.

The government will not rush to announce that Jordan has reached its peak regarding the number of coronavirus cases, especially since the incubation period for the virus is 14 days, he said.

Imposing a total lockdown is not part of the government's plans right now and it is the last thing the government wants, said Hayajneh.

He reiterated the need to abide by precautionary health measures, including wearing facemasks and social distancing, as the government is currently working on strengthening the health system and increasing its capacity.
